It has been awesome engineering some radio tours the last few weeks for Taylor Swift, The Band Perry, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban, Steel Magnolia and a few more. I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July!

Just completed...

I just completed mixing a new full length album for Parachute Musical entitled 'Kill It Cut It Down' produced by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Jack's Mannequin, The Rocket Summer). It is an AWESOME record that was a blast to be part of. I always enjoy getting to work with those guys. You can check out the first released track titled "Back To Life" by Clicking here -->>"Back To Life" by Parachute Musical

I also just wrapped up mixing a song for Ten Out Of Tenn artist Tyler James "Tyler spent the majority of last year touring as a member of the LA based band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, he has also shared shows with Mat Kearney, Paper Route and Diane Birch. He has had songs featured on Brothers and Sisters, The Hills and his duet with Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer) was featured on the Bridge to Terabithia soundtrack....."

The new song titled "The Only One" should be out end of summer on the next Ten Out Of Ten compilation. Okay... back to work!

Derek

Wrapped up 2010 and into 2011!

2010 was a great year! I was blessed to have worked on a lot of great projects. Most notably was the pleasure to work with four time Grammy nominated artist Jewel on her 2010 release entitled "Sweet and Wild" - Deluxe Edition . I recorded and mixed the second disc of "Sweet and Wild" titled “Sweet and Mild” which features 11 raw and insightful acoustic performances!

Towards the end of the 2010 I also had the pleasure of recording and producing two songs for Ohio natives, now Nashville transplants Lovedrug. The Tracks titled "The Wheel and "Our War" were released as part of their EP Part EP III 2011 release.

2011 has already begun to shape up as a busy year. More to come!

Where I have been

It’s been some time since I last posted, A lot of time in fact. Kicking off 2009 I Produced and Engineered Nashville based Pico Vs Island Trees new EP titled "Futura". It features some great string and horn arrangements by Max Abrams as well as drumming by Fred Eltringham (The Wallflowers). You can check out "Futura" online by clicking here

I also started and currently am working on a record with artist Daniel Cartier. The rest of 2009 I spent working on a slew of Nashville bands including Hey Penny, Keegan Dewitt, The Get You(Fred Eltringham of The Wallflowers...still in progress), and even sneaking off to Texas to work on some recording for Jewel over the summer.

At the beginning of 2010 I produced an awesome 2 song EP with Parachute Musical titled "No Comfort". They are busy touring their butt's off all over the country. Lots more coming this year and I look forward to keeping you updated as things progress.

Best,

Derek

New Studio

Just finished moving into the new studio called sound vortex. It's a great place just off Belmont Blvd with an awesome vibe. Fully stocked with vintage compressors, equalizers and a great 32-channel inline console. It's just the place for me to continue working with up and coming artists!

p.s. the site is being updated so please bare with me as I get things up and online.

Parachute Musical

After a year of work, the Parachute Musical album has been completed and released. This record has been a massive and rewarding undertaking. Here's what people are saying.

"One of the most elaborate and expansive pieces [Everything Is Working Out Fine In Some Town] the local independent rock scene has produced in recent memory." - Dave Paulson, All The Rage Nashville, TN, 6/12/2008

"Foster packs enough musical language into indie-engineer Derek Garten's crisp production to make even punchy ragtime throwbacks seem cool.- Critic Picks, The Nashville Scene, 08/09/2007
